Who needs Tivo when there's YouTube?  I watched the first two episodes of The Spectacular Spider-Man last night after [info]angelcarnivore sent me a link.  Awesome show.  Greg Weisman and Victor Cook have done a great job making such a well-known character seem fresh and new.  The voice casting is great, the action scenes are some of the best I've seen since Gargoyles, and I loved all the little inside references for observant Gargoyles fans.

I'll definitely have to start setting my VCR for this on Saturday mornings since I'm not ussually home at 10 am when it airs.  The uploads to YouTube didn't include the full end credits, and I definitely want to peruse those for the "Hey, I know that person, and that person, and that person..." factor.  :)

If anyone's wondering what Bruce Campbell (Autolycus) and Renee O'Connor (Gabrielle) have been up to since Xena went off the air... they're over on the SciFi Channel in a "humans rebel against alien invaders" movie that is so insanely godawful that it puts Battlefield Earth to shame.  Someone must have fell asleep while watching Planet of the Apes and woke up in the middle of Braveheart to come up with the script for Alien Apocalypse

The premise is lifted straight from them both.  Astronauts on a deep space mission return to Earth to find the planet has been conquered by aliens.  One of them then tries to rally the people and lead a rebellion.  Unfortunately, the only stirring battle in this two-hour made-for-tv waste of time is the lameness of the visual effects competing against that of the dialog.  Bruce Campbell doesn't even make a convincing Taylor, yet alone a good William Wallace.

Renee O'Connor's only purpose seemed to be to hang off his side when they were together, and be the off-screen damsel he needs to rescue when they were apart.  After watching her kick ass with a long stick as her only weapon for so many seasons alongside Lucy Lawless, I was bored to tears watching her here.  Yet, indeed, I watched to the end because it was one of those movies that was JUST THAT BAD.

If the touring production of Avenue Q stops in a city near you and you haven't seen it on stage yet (watching clips on Youtube does not count), by all means GO SEE IT.  ZOMG my sides are aching from laughing.  I was only 5 rows from the stage, too... for some reason the seats started at Row D and I was in Row H.  Best seating I've ever had for anything in my life, and I didn't have to sell a kidney to afford the ticket.   There were a lot of senior citizens in the audience, too... more than I expected to see given some of the show's content.  But everyone seemed to have a good time. :)

Will Smith should totally win an award for his performance in this movie.  Damn that was awesome.  If you haven't seen it yet, GO NOW.

I picked up "Gargoyles" Issue #3 on Wednesday, but I haven't had time to post a review until now.  I debated my icons a bit for this post, but in the end I decided these two guys in the balcony were more appropriate for delivering a review than any of my Puck icons.

Summary: Two thumbs up.  Ignore that panhandling Loch Ness Monster and buy this comic.  It's tree-fiddy well spent.
